Bollywood Movies - The Upcoming Indian Film Industry

By abhishek modi

It may interest you to know that Bollywood is name that refers to film industry in India. This is the industry where all kinds of Bollywood movies are released every year, ranging across a myriad genre of cinema. Bollywood is based in India, Mumbai and Maharashtra. More often than not, people use the term to refer collectively to Indian Cinema though in the real sense, it is just a part of the Indian cinema industry. Bollywood is notably the largest producer of films in India and among the world largest film production centers in the world.

These days, bollywood movies have started featuring the use of English in their dialogues which has helped in roping in more viewers. Another distinct quality of films that are made in Bollywood is the generous use of song and dance to take the story forward. To keep fans hooked, producers usually market and release the music albums of their movies a month or two in advance. The overall benefit runs across all kinds of movies and helps them take a sizable percentage of the movie industry which foreign films also hold.

Obviously when you go watch a movie in a theater, you want to get back some value for your money. Indian fans have similar views when it comes to watching a Hindi movie released in Bollywood. They want that when they go watch a movie, they get a decent amount of entertainment out of it. This is the reason Hindi movies have a lot of 'spices' in the form of song and dance sequences, and a mix of comedy, action and romantic scenes added in.

Most bollywood movies are produced after the writer and director have submitted a script. A lot of times they are accused of plagiarizing the story line scene to scene from classic movies.

The methodology of creating a movie in bollywood is perhaps what makes this industry different from other film industries. First the director and the writer sit down and decide on the storyline and the script. In most cases, this is taken off, or 'inspired' from popular movies in the West or in the East. Then these characters and stories are translated to relate to the Indian life and a lot of song and dance is added to make the movie 'entertaining'.

On the other hand, there are a number of films which are absolutely original in their treatment of the story. More often than not, these movies do not have songs also in them. They have complex or completely unheard of stories to them and this type of cinema is often called 'parallel cinema'. However, a majority of movies, as you will see are heavily inspired or adapted from Hollywood movies.

Quite a number of people are of the opinion that a western outlook or inspiration is not good for films being made in India. These movies do not talk about our own culture and heritage, and as a result Indians often look up to Western ideals and traditions. People who work in bollywood also prefer working in movies which are 'modern' and 'classy'. - 40727
