The Change From Knight & Day

By Darrell Dorsey

Two people with different lives cross paths in Knight & Day. The idea that they are as different as night and day is the idea behind the spin they put on the title reflecting knight instead of night. As the story continues, you begin to see that although they are different, he really does turn out to be her knight in shining armor. She is a bit reluctant to allow this, but finds herself in no position to argue.

Part of a good drama is the chase that comes with the story. You may not even know the exact reason for the chase right away, but you know it's important enough that the bad guys want the good guys out of the picture. With everyone running all over the place, you can throw in some cars or a boat or a motorcycle. A chase is a chase no matter what vehicle you're attempting to escape on. It's the people that add to the big picture.

A love story begins during the movie that is comical and heartfelt. The one liners and references to moments they share reflect a relationship that grows over time. As they learn more about each other, they become closer and closer. It's a complicated issue filled with chase scenes, moments of truth and occasional unconsciousness.

The story and life behind each person reflects a little about where they came from. As time continues and their paths continue to cross, each person is lead intimately deeper into the lives each other leads. From one sisters wedding to parents that have no idea what has become of their son, the emotions start to roll as the situation gets more and more complex.

An initial reaction to this movie could appear to be the action that is enhanced in the promotions. A few lines that keep you laughing show the comedy that makes the action all that more unique. Attention is given to the fact that these are real people in a difficult situation trying to make the most of it. Sometimes you laugh in a tough situation and sometimes you cry.

As new times and places appear throughout the movie, you see the creativity that was put into each scene. From a chase scene on the slim streets of a busy city to a desolate island where no man has tarnished it with urban life. Many places are a simplistic place of peace and quiet that can only be found by traveling near and far. The colors that enhance the characters also bring out the imagination behind the creativity.

Typically, the bad guys are never very smart and that continues to show how the good guys are always one step ahead. Needing to be one step ahead in order to survive is the name of the game. From shooting guns, dodging bullets and crashing cars to lengthy conversations that ensue show the depth of each situation.

A double meaning is reflected in actions and non-actions shown throughout. When you want to watch something that will make you laugh and cry at the same time, this is one of those moments when you'll want to pick Knight & Day. You will see that love can conquer many things and that good guys can get hurt, yet still win in the end. - 40727
