Introducing The Panasonic Viera TX-P46G20

By Priscilla Wilkerson

When considering the Panasonic TX-P46G20 plasma TV, understand that this 46-inch television sits as a new model in the Japanese consumer electronics manufacturer's Viera lineup of TVs. For years, Panasonic has been known as an innovative maker of such flat-panel TVs and this one -- with a wide variety of features -- will be sure to please most any discerning consumer in the UK, it must be said.

Panasonic includes a couple of different tuning filters in its higher-line televisions, and this one has them both, including the newer Freeview-HD function. It allows for those owners in the United Kingdom to access for free over 100 channels that are beamed into the UK. No satellite dish is needed, nor is there any other equipment that's actually required to begin viewing enjoyment.

There's another filter included with this particular Panasonic, and it's Freesat, but this time with full HD capability. It requires a satellite dish and it allows the TV to pick up many channels that Freeview can't. At any rate, the TV itself is made with a high level of build quality that's evident throughout, even upon casual examination.

All of the images displayed on the television's screen come at a viewer in true high definition, meaning that this particular Panasonic does it all in 1080P (pixels). There are a few new-to-Panasonic technologies for enhancing the picture that build on top of the company's NeoPDP technology suite. Additionally, the TV puts forth a super-fine contrast ratio of 2,000,000 to 1 for very deep blacks and very bright whites.

All of this on-screen motion is controlled by a fine 600 Hz processor, which is robust enough to ensure that there'll be no smearing or blurring on the screen in cases where the action is moving very fast.Panasonic calls all of this technology "Intelligent Frame Creation Pro, " and it works exactly as promised.

The TXP46G20 is also WiFI and Skype-ready, needing only an optional dongle and a USB adapter to bring these two features to the television. As well, Panasonic rates the plasma screen's lifespan at over 100,000 hours, meaning that the TV will probably last longer than many of its consumers will! It also has a number of useful connectivity capabilities, meaning that many other devices can be hooked to the TV.

The TV comes with four separate HDMI input ports as well as Ethernet and audio outs along with a couple of different USB ports. The TV is made to connect to laptop and desktop PCs and it has an SD memory card slot to bolster all of its other features. Lastly, the sound put out by the television is top-notch, and it boasts a solid suite of Dolby THX surround sound features to go along with everything else.

In all, the Panasonic TX-P46G20 represents a definite improvement over the older lineup of televisions that the company intends for it to replace. It brings a lot of class and style to the game, sitting as it does within its slim, handsome black casing. As well, UK consumers can purchase the TV-- which is new to the market as of March, 2010 -- for around 1300 British pounds, including VAT and minus a discount voucher. - 40727
