Ridley Scott's Greatest Films In Recent Memory

By Adam Richards

One director who is often overlooked in conversations of the greats is Ridley Scott. Sir Ridley Scott has been putting out quality films for the better part of four decades, and continues to direct fantastic movies. Few people have as many accolades and iconic films under their belt as he does.

While it is tough to narrow it down, this article will discuss my favorite Ridley Scott movies.

The first movie I will discuss is Matchstick Men. This is so not a Ridley Scott movie it is funny. In my opinion, nothing about this film represents the bulk of his other work, but it is still a great film. Nicholas Cage is great in the leading role.

Black Hawk Down is another great Ridley Scott film. This is one of the few films that depicts war in Africa so well. This movie just has such a real feel to it, not to mention an amazing cast in Josh Hartnett, Eric Bana, Ewan McGregor and Tom Sizemore.

No list of Ridley Scott films could be completed without giving mention to Gladiator. This is arguably the film of his career, and it came as little surprise to most who saw it when it won the Academy Award for Best Picture. Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix were both excellent.

Another iconic film from the great Ridley Scott is Blade Runner. This movie set the precedent for many of the great science fiction films that we have come to love today. This is also one of Harrison Ford's best roles in my opinion.

Finally, a film that I feel the need to include in this article is Hannibal. I am a big fan of Silence Of The Lambs, and maybe the sequel wasn't as good, but it was better than most sequels in my opinion. I thought Sir Ridley Scott did the second film justice.

Hopefully there are one or more films from the great Ridley Scott in this article that you have yet to see. - 40727
